Prolotherapy
is an injection technique that can stimulate ligaments, joint
capsules, and injured skeletal tendons to re-grow or repair
themselves. Tissue stimulants are injected, which can cause
the release of intracellular growth factors that lead to tissue
repair and new collagen growth. The way in which the technique
works is similar to the repair that would occur naturally
in response to a bodily injury such as the healing of broken
skin or bone.
Prolotherapy treatment has been scientifically and clinically
proven effective. Ligaments can weaken, causing a condition
similar to a "loose shoe lace," in which support
to the joint becomes severely weakened, leading to pain, arthritis,
and joint damage. The overwhelming importance of this treatment
is that it can permanently reverse many chronic conditions.
Dr. Magaziner believes in the use of prolotherapy if and
when other, more conservative treatments have proven ineffective.
This treatment is safe, and it carries a success rate of over
85% in the already chronic population. Prolotherapy can be
effective for a wide variety of conditions, some of which
follow:
- Cervical sprains, strains, whiplash
- Cervical arthritis
- Thoracic sprains, strains, scoliosis
- Costochondritis
- Lumbar sprains and strains
- Sacral iliac sprains
- Hip joint pain, tendonitis
- Knee pain, arthritis, strains
- Ankle sprains, tendonitis, arthritis
- Plantar fascitis
- TMJ sprains
- Shoulder, AC sprain, instability
- Elbow pain, epicendylitis
- Wrist pain, sprain, instability
- Thumb / finger pain, arthritis
- Chronic tendonitis anywhere, including at the knee and
heel

Acupuncture
is an Ancient Chinese healing method that has been a staple
of mainstream medicine in China, Japan, France, and Canada
for many years. It is belief of Chinese medical practitioners
that acupuncture works by unblocking the "flow of energy"
in the human body, which supplies fuel to nourish joints,
muscles, and organs. As this flow of energy is no longer hindered,
the body heals itself and the pain subsides.
In the United States, this technique is constantly gaining
a wider acceptance among medical professionals and the general
public as Americans are growing more aware of its profound
benefits.
Dr. Magaziner has trained extensively in the technique for
a period of two years at the UCLA School of Medicine, under
the direction of Dr. Joseph Helms, the pioneer of American
acupuncture. Further, Dr. Magaziner is a member of the American
Academy of Medical Acupuncture and the New Jersey Society
of Medical Acupuncture.
Acupuncture can serve to alleviate a wide variety of conditions
including headache, minor depression, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia,
many types of joint pain, chronic arthritis, spinal pain from
arthritis or sprains, disc herniation or spinal stemosis,
and mild to moderate carpal tunnel syndrome.
Customarily, an acupuncture treatment regimen begins with
an initial evaluation and each treatment session lasts roughly
45 minutes. The technique uses very thin, sterile, disposable
acupuncture needles at special pressure points in and around
the region of discomfort. Light electrical stimulation is
applied, which provides a sensation of light tingling within
the area. All in all, the level of discomfort is minimal,
and most people find the process easily tolerable. Somewhat
more scientifically than their Far-Eastern counterparts, western
practitioners theorize that acupuncture works by releasing
the bodies natural hormones and neurotransmitters, which serve
to inhibit pain and improve immune system response, which
in turn facilitates healing.

Spinal
Injections: Dr. Magaziner has trained at Stanford University
under nationally recognized authorities, Dr.'s Jeffrey and
Joel Saul. He has attended multiple courses with the Professional
Association of Sports, Spine, and Occupational Rehabilitation.
Further, Dr. Magaziner has been trained by some of the most
recognized leaders and pioneers in the field of spinal injection,
including radiologists, anesthesiologists, physiatrists, and
surgeons. Recently, Dr. Magaziner has attained further training
on "Advanced Pain Management Techniques," including
radiofrequency, spinal pump and stimulator injections, and
intradiscal coagulation therapies, with the world renowned
Cleveland Clinic
Dr. Magaziner performs a great deal of Flouroscopically-guided
techniques for the purposes of diagnosing and controlling
pain. In every instance, Dr. Magaziner uses great diligence,
care, and any amount of time necessary to make sure the process
is done efficiently and correctly. It is because of this fact
that Dr. Magaziner's outcomes with the use of these techniques
are customarily more successful than the accepted average
among his piers. Some of the injections practiced by the Center
for Spine, Sports, and Pain Management include the following:
- Cervical epidural injections and selective nerve root
blocks
- Cervical transforminal epidural injections
- Cervical facet injections
- Thoracic epidural injections and selective nerve root
blocks
- Thoracic facet injection
- Thoracic costovertebral joint injections
- Lumbar epidural injections and selective nerve root blocks
- Lumbar transforaminal epidural injections
- Caudal epidural injections
- Epidural catheter guided techniques
- Epidural neurolysis / adhesiolysis
- Epiduroscopic catheter guided techniques
- Lumbar discograms
- Lumbar sympathetic blocks and ganglion blocks
- Flouroscopically guided botox injections
- Flouroscopically guided hip and joint injections
- Flouroscopically guided plexus or nerve blocks

Myofascial
trigger points are an extremely common source of pain in the
neck, lower back, or extremities. They are composed of hyper-irritable
areas of skeletal muscle, which can cause referred pain in
virtually any area of the body. They can occur after injury,
due to faulty posture, or often for no apparent reason. People
who have this condition are regularly misdiagnosed with other
pain problems. Sadly, these people often have had to endure
surgeries that were unsuccessful due to the fact that the
true muscle problem was not realized. Though the ill effects
of Myofascial trigger points can cause many years of suffering,
they are frequently overlooked as a cause of pain problems.
Dr. Magaziner has had many years of experience in dealing
with Myofascial Trigger Points, stemming from his studies
under Dr. Janet Travell, a pioneer in the research and treatment
of this disorder.
A treatment regimen for a patient who suffers from Myofascial
Trigger Points would include a postural evaluation and correction,
special stretching exercises, soft tissue mobilization and
reconstruction, physical therapy, and occasional injections
or acupuncture stimulation of the trigger points to relax
and deactivate their negative effects. All in all, the treatment
involves a very minimal amount of discomfort and can be highly
effective.
